Let it go evaluation

Practice Video Shoot Evaluation: Let It Go
Planning:

Planning the music video was very easy as this was a song that we knew well and had many ideas for. What we put our main focus on is how we would film the video and what kind of video angles we would use when filming the music video. We decided to use the lyrics of the song to plan out what camera angle we want for each line, for example ‘let it go, let it go’  we used a close up shot to show the expression on the models face, ‘can’t hold me back anymore’  we used a long shot to show the model walking away from the camera and show location. We wanted to symbolise a message in our music video and we wanted to use the location to do this through which is why when planning we decided that we would film outside to show a message of ‘freedom’ which the song represents. When filming for our course work, we will follow this exact form of planning as it worked best for us and made the actual filming on the video very easy for us.

Group Work:

As a group we managed to work well to complete the task. We all had different jobs to do, mine was mainly filming which I have most experience in. The only one problem we had was sharing the space with other groups as often we became distracted and didn't focus on our task. In addition to this, myself and another person I was working in felt as though not everyone was putting in enough work and commitment. When picking who to work with for the course work task, I’d like to pick carefully who I would like to work with as the grade will ultimately go towards my final grade.

Technical Skills:

As I do youtube videos in my spare time, filming wasn't an issue as I knew how to use the DSLR camera properly however we faced a few challenges when editing. As we didn't have any experience in creating a music video the hardest part was matching the lip-synching to the original song. When editing we found that the model was lip synching ahead of the song. When filming for my coursework, I will ensure that the model we use will know the song well and will lip-synch along with the song as this will give us the best results. Also, we want to experiment with our video which is why when we film the video we are going to try incorporate all elements of filming with location, costume etc. to get the best results possible.

Creative Skills:

Some of the ideas which we had for the video shoot were some what difficult to bring into action so often we had to think of new ideas on the spot. The first day of filming we thought was successful however when we watched the clips back we weren't happy with most of the content which is why we had to start over again and in the same lesson start editing too. Directing was a mix of being easy and difficult, it was easy showing the model what to do however as mentioned before, the group was often distracted and not doing their role well which made it very difficult as we had to keep doing many jobs at the same time. When recording my music video, I will ensure that I will plan out the video so its doable and we won’t have to keep changing our ideas as this will take up a lot of time and also will cause us delay. Also, as mentioned before I will also be smart with who I work with as this will ultimately determine how well I perform in my course work.

Targets:

Main target for me is to pick people who I know will work well with me and work hard to get the best results at the end of the project. Another target is for me to plan the video with my group in advance just like we did so it is easier to film when we have to do so. Also, I need to practise using the camera, though I have the basic skills, I want to advance my skills so the ending result of my coursework is to its best standard. We as a group need to chose a model who will perform well when lip synching because this was one thing that really brought the video down. Lastly, practise editing as Final Cut is still a very new programme to me and if I practise and get used to the programme, I believe it would be highly beneficial for me when editing my video.

  1. Good work on the blog, you have some useful summer task work and a great start to your case studies and ideas. Your practice task blog posts and photos are excellent, shows the process and evaluates the project well.

    Keep up the good work!
